The Bling Ring is, unfortunately, not a good movie. Emma Watson’s American accent is also not good. The kid who played Marc, though..that kid? Pretty bright spot.

my record of “bar review” movies continues…

Movie #4: The Descendants

Portrayal of Hawaii
As not just a paradise.
Great cast and story.

Movie #5: Presumed Innocent

Legal thriller with
Harrison Ford. Criminal
law: how salacious!

Movie #6: The Game

David Fincher film.
Lots and lots of twist and turns.
Rich man made less spoiled.

For some reason, I figured it was a good idea to watch one movie each day I study for the Bar. Here, for hte first three days of Bar Review, are my selections, along with a brief haiku review (because what fun is an activity if there can’t be some intellectualized element to it).

Day 1: Young Adult

better written than
juno, charline looked like young
kidman. that was odd.

Day 2: Tokyo Drift

friend recommended
made me question his taste that
third one is his fave

Day 3: Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

tom cruise oddly hot
“globe trotting is the best”:
m.i.s’ all the same…

eh. didn’t love it. primarily, i found adam scott calling jennfier westfeldt’s character “doll,” when there was another, more appropriate and just as monosyllabic nickname available for her (“jules”), incredibly grating.

i did, however, find jon hamm to be kind of delightful.

bbook:

From the start of my career, I’ve been naked,” says Fassbender, whose newest film, Haywire, opens January 20. “I must admit—I initially thought it might be fun. You hear ‘sex,’ and you think…sex! But this was definitely the hardest job I’ve done,” he says of starring in Steve McQueen’s Shame. “I can usually shake a character off, but I couldn’t shake Brandon. He had no sensual enjoyment in his life, and since we filmed the movie so quickly, I found myself living in his skin. Keeping him close to me was exhausting, cold, horrible.

K, Bye.

you forgot to say “thanxxxxxxxxx”!

i saw this today. three thoughts:

1. amazing.
2. fassbender is god-like in attractiveness
and
3. it did not turn me off sex, as my friend annie suggested it would. it actually did the opposite.

It’s weird watching it now that I know that the Winkelvii were played by one actor…

update: i forgot how good the music was. reznor deserved that oscar. hard. andrew garfield is dreamy. hard.

even the ones not set at christmas-time.

i saw this last night at ifc.

i think that herzog is a great filmmaker - fitzcarraldo is my JAAAAAAAAM - but i don’t think he’s that great of a documentarian. he was too strong a presence in the story and it made the film seem self-indulgent rather than an opportunity for the victims of these horrendous crimes to have their story told and shared with a large audience.

that being said, if he was going to make a film about the evils of the death penalty, he really could have chosen more sympathetic death row inmates. perry did that shit.

i’m currently watching this. yes, i love it so much that i’m tumbling about it before it’s even over. it’s amazing! mark brandanowitz from parks & rec is in it! so is the gallerist who almost married jack during those episodes of 30 rock! and they’re married (their characters in the film)! and ryan gosling is being even more awkward than every dude i’ve ever dated!

so. good.
